CareGivers Conference

Saturday, February 24, from 8 am – 3:15 pm, First Baptist Bryan will host our second annual Caregivers Conference. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Dennis Myers. Dr. Myers is currently the Kronzer Endowed Professor in Family Studies and Chair of the Gerontology Initiative at Baylor University.

As a professor, Dr. Myers has taught in the areas of geriatrics and social work. He has done extensive research on Alzheimer’s disease and family caregiving. He will deliver two keynote address—one on each field of study.

Breakout Sessions

Dr. Thomas Weiss
Dr. Weiss will speak to the entire conference during the lunch hour. His talk, titled “Where Have We Been and Where Are We Going?,” will focus on his research of dementia.

Dr. Mark Faries
Dr. Faries specializes in researching healthy lifestyle behaviors. His breakout session will discuss nutrition in both the loved one and the caregiver.

Mary Culpepper
Mary’s breakout session will discuss what to look for when choosing a care facility. She will also talk about when it may be necessary to begin looking for a facility.

Gary Roe
Gary’s breakout session will deal with the grief process associated with caregiving. He will speak about the stress/workload that comes with caring for your loved one in the home.
